Dr Shaimil Patel - Restorative And Cosmetic Dentist - Dentist Surrey

A quick look at our team member’s roles here at our Addlestone clinic.

At the Sync Dental Centres, each and every one of our team strives to improve the oral health of our patients, both in preventative and restorative roles. Although most of our blogs will continue to offer general dental advice as well as discussing various treatments that we offer, we will also take the opportunity to look at the roles that individual dentists play within our practice.

In today’s blog, we will take a look at the main activities of Dr Shaimil Patel D.M.D (GDC number 253427), a valued member of our team.

Perfectionist

Shaimil describes himself as being a ‘perfectionist’, and this is good news for our patients who want to receive the very best treatment. Shaimil, like our other dentists, insists on using only the best quality materials to provide patients with great outcomes. Dr Patel is able to carry out a wide range of cosmetic treatments and has completed the Advanced Operative Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry course at the Aspire Dental Academy to enable him to do so in the most effective way.

Today, we will take a look at three of the procedures, amongst many, that he provides for patients of the Sync Dental Centres.

Traditional braces

Having crooked and uneven teeth can not only look unattractive but can cause other problems too.  In children, it can lead to a lack of confidence if they are made fun of at school, but also and perhaps more importantly, can have a negative impact on speech development and eating habits. There are a range of children’s orthodontic systems that can be used to straighten teeth at a young age.

For adults, crooked teeth can detract from an otherwise attractive smile but can also lead to an increase in tooth decay. Crooked teeth, especially where they overlap, can be very difficult to clean well, with bacteria becoming trapped in places where a brush or floss can’t reach. When this happens, tooth decay can easily happen if the teeth are not straightened. Our range of traditional braces can straighten out crooked teeth but there are also alternative systems which offer a much more discreet method as we will see shortly.

Veneers

Porcelain veneers can be applied where the surface of the tooth is damaged or has been eroded. They are especially useful for reducing tooth sensitivity due to erosion which causes the more porous layer beneath to be exposed. They are also widely used as a ‘next step’ solution for discoloured teeth. Whilst a teeth whitening procedure is sufficient for most of our patients, there are situations where discolouration is so far advanced that any benefits will be limited. In these cases, it can be more effective to remove a fine layer from the stained surface and replace this with veneers. The veneers that are used by Shaimil are of a very high quality and providing that the patient looks after their teeth well, they should be expected to last for approximately 10 years or so before needing to be replaced.

Invisalign

As one of our top Invisalign providers, Shaimil has straightened the teeth of many patients using this discreet and comfortable system. Unlike traditional braces which generally use a system of wires and brackets, Invisalign consists of a series of trays which are placed, in sequence, over the teeth; with each one working to correct the position a little at a time.

The key benefit noted by most of our patients is that the trays are made from a transparent material and can barely be seen when worn. This isn’t the only advantage though as the trays are made to be removable, meaning that they can be taken out before eating. In addition to this, and probably even more importantly, it means that the teeth can be cleaned in the same way as you usually do. This significantly reduces the risk of tooth decay from food that has become trapped in the braces, as can happen with traditional ‘wire and bracket’ types.

Although we have highlighted Shaimil for this particular blog post, we will cover our other dentists over time too. All of the team at the Sync Dental Centres are highly trained professionals and endeavour to provide the best and most appropriate treatment possible for our patients.
