His experience of working in the UK and different parts of the world has enhanced his understanding of different dental materials and techniques.
Ali has always been interested in saving teeth and strongly believes natural teeth have no equal substitute. As such, his aim is to retain and restore teeth including the most heavily broken ones.
Ali has a special interest and comprehensive training in providing endodontics (root canal treatment), Periodontal surgery (crown lengthening) and prosthodontics (restoring teeth).
Dr Ali has expanded his expertise by furthering his studies and practice in dental implants, recently completing a diploma in implants with distinction.
Ali has a gentle approach and the fantastic ability to ensure patient comfort will resonate with some of our more nervous and anxious patients.
Aatif graduated from Barts and the London School of Dentistry in 2012. Following a year of foundation training in the Berkshire deanery, he went on to complete a year working as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Southampton General Hospital. Here he developed his skills in Oral Surgery, as well as gaining valuable insight and experience in the management of head and neck oncology, trauma and orthognathic surgery.
Having worked in general practice since 2014, Aatif established a strong foundation in all areas of general dentistry, however, it was in the field of Endodontics that he developed the keenest interest. In 2018 he undertook a full-time Masters’ degree in Endodontics at the world-renowned UCL Eastman Dental Institute, which he completed in 2019. During this year of intensive study, Aatif acquired the breadth of knowledge and technical skills required for the diagnosis and management of challenging Endodontic cases.
Aatif has a calm and gentle chairside manner and is particularly confident in manageing nervous patients. He always endeavours to ensure that the experience of dental treatment is a positive one for all patients.
Away from dentistry, Aatif loves to stay active, as well as enjoying travelling and going to concerts.
Dr Shanil Patel graduated with an undergraduate masters from the University of Leeds. During his undergraduate training he had a strong passion for the field of endodontics and immediately began to pursue the competitive career as soon as he left university. He has worked in multiple practices doing a mixture of NHS and private dentistry and enhanced his surgical skills and medical knowledge during his maxillofacial training year at Wythenshawe Hospital.
Shanil has won various dental awards such as the Endodontic Harty Prize, the undergraduate Oral Surgery Award and the Northwest Dental Core Training Poster Prize. He was also a finalist for the Northwest Dental Foundation Training Restorative Case Prize. He has completed his MFDS qualification to become a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
In 2019 Shanil was offered a place on the highly competitive DDSc Endodontics Programme in Liverpool. He has since passed the Membership in Endodontics specialty examinations and his Doctorate is centred around the restoration of root filled teeth.
When teeth become infected, usually through tooth decay or trauma, Shanil can provide root canal treatment to prevent the need for extracting the teeth. His advanced training allows him to manage cases such as molar teeth, re-treatments, curved root canals, post removal, crown removal, resorption, trauma, and abscesses. He performs treatment using state-of-the-art equipment such as a dental microscope. But his main priority has always been to treat patients in their best interests. His main skills lie in his ability to communicate and empathise with patients.
Outside of dentistry, Shanil is a sports fanatic. He mainly loves to play and watch football, but also plays golf and cricket, and regularly attends the gym. He loves to socialise with his friends and travel.
