A tooth extraction is a procedure to remove a tooth from your mouth. We do our best to protect your natural teeth, but sometimes we need to complete an extraction. We offer tooth extraction at Sync Dental Centres for patients who have a damaged tooth where it can’t be restored by other methods.
Some people get very nervous about having an extraction and we understand this and will make sure you are comfortable and understand what we are doing every step of the way. Extraction can actually give people a sense of relief, particularly if the tooth has been infected and causing them some pain.
There are many reasons why a tooth might need to be extracted, such as:
Cavities – A cavity is a hole in a tooth that can be caused by bacteria. If a cavity is not treated, it can eventually cause the tooth to decay and break.
Advanced gum disease – Teeth with extensive decay or advanced gum disease.
Impacted wisdom teeth – Wisdom teeth are the third molars that grow in at the back of the mouth. Sometimes they do not have enough room to erupt properly and can become impacted. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause pain, infection, and damage to other teeth.
Trauma – A tooth can be knocked out or broken if it is hit by a hard object. If this happens, the tooth will need to be extracted.
Baby tooth – removal of a baby tooth that has not fallen out and is stopping a permanent tooth from emerging.
Orthodontics – to create space for orthodontic treatment or dentures.
If you need to have a tooth extracted, there are a few things you can expect. We will first numb the area around the tooth. We will then use a tool to loosen the tooth and another tool to remove it. The extraction site may bleed for a few minutes after the tooth is removed. We will pack the socket with gauze to help stop the bleeding.
You will need to take it easy for a few days after the extraction. Avoid hot food and drinks and avoid chewing on the side of your mouth where the tooth was extracted. You may also experience some pain and swelling. These symptoms should go away within a few days.
If you have any questions or concerns about tooth extraction, please talk to our friendly team and we would be happy to answer any questions.

Dental implants are a natural-looking, long-term solution to missing teeth. They can replace one or more missing teeth and help to improve your ability to chew, speak, and smile.
Dental implants are made of titanium, which is a strong, biocompatible material that your body will accept. The titanium screw is surgically placed into your jawbone, where it will fuse together and become a permanent part of your body. Over time, the bone will grow around the implant, anchoring it in place.
A crown or bridge is then placed on top of the implant, which gives you a natural-looking tooth. Dental implants can last for many years, and they can be a great way to improve your oral health and well-being.
